Helian
Waterless Lithograph
2007

I am both fascinated and disgusted by the marketing tactics used to convince us to buy this or that brand of soda, or to choose one bottled water over another. I find inspiration in the fine print on prescription medications and the ingredients in ultra-processed foods. Both frightening and humorous, they reflect the environmental, social, and health impacts of our society’s overconsumption.

By recreating an otherwise mundane object using a unique material and presenting it in a different context, I am able to subtly alter the viewer's reaction to the object as well as their opinion of our society. Though the piece's materiality can be amusing at first glance, it prompts us to consider our relationship to mass production, marketing, and consumption.
